The objective of the Wilhelm Lorch Foundation is to promote the qualification of young people in the sector. It is supported by personalities and companies from the textile and fashion sector. Around € 50,000 of the Foundation's income will be distributed in the form of prizes in 2011.
If you work in our sector or are engaged in an apprenticeship or course of study preparatory to beginning a career in the sector; if you are interested in professional advancement and advanced training for yourself, then you could be the right person to become a prizewinner of the Wilhelm Lorch Foundation.
The deadline for receipt is 28 October 2010. Applications and dissertations from outside Germany should be submitted in German or English only. The Board of Trustees will decide who is to receive the Promotional Awards on the end of February 2011. The awards will be conferred during the TextilWirtschaft Forum in May 2011. Promotion of the basic and advanced training in the trade and in practice
The Foundation promotes the basic and advanced training of talented young people and future executives who already work in the trade or industry of the textile and fashion sector.
Promoted are young people who have been remarkable for their particular performance in practice. Applications can be submitted by young professionals who distinguished themselves in the trade, in their companies or in company training courses, who beside their job train themselves by studying on their own or those who want to develop their knowledge in practice by work placements or evening courses.
The promotional means are available for home and foreign course fees, work placements, sitting in on classes. In accordance with the charter of the Foundation they have to be used for the sector-related basic and advanced training. The application should include references of the instructor or the personnel manager. Moreover applicants should clearly show the relationship between the current employment, the advanced training and their career objective. Age limit: 32 years.
Your application should include:
- a curriculum vitae in tabular form that is suitable for copying with a passport photograph
- copies of school, professional or studies certificates
- a brief description of your current employment
- a description of the the planned sector-related education, the reasons for the education continuing in the future
- a time and financial plan of the education continuing in the future
- a description of your career goals
- at least one reference of your instructor/personnel manager or superior with a statement indicating the reasons for a suggestion for an award
Prizes for completed projects
The Foundation awards prizes to completed works that are appropriate to the fashion sector, the textile trade and / or the textile and garment manufacturing industry, as well as related fields. The project can be concerned with creative, marketing, logistics, technical and communication aspects or interdisciplinary subjects, such as ecology, new media and international interweavement.
Particularly worthy of support are university dissertations on creative, economic or technical subjects relevant to the textile sector. Embargoed projects will be treated in the strictest confidence and not published. Age limit: 32.
Your application should include:
- a curriculum vitae in tabular form that is suitable for copying, with a passport photograph and certificates
- details of your current employment
- a description of how you see your education and career continuing in the future
- your career goals
- a statement about how you would use the prize money should you be selected
- a complete, bound copy of the dissertation including drawings / tableaux / fabric samples, if appropriate. If absolutely necessary, please send only one part of the collection. Photographs are better in such cases
- a brief description of the content of the dissertation (max. two pages)
- a reference from the university lecturer concerned on headed paper of the faculty, including details of the grade given
- in the case of dissertations linked to a specific company, a letter of approval from the company for submission to the Wilhelm Lorch Foundation.
